Dr. Lonnie Zeltzer, M.D. is a Distinguished Research Professor of Pediatrics, Anesthesiology, Psychiatry, and Biobehavioral Sciences at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and for 30 years past-Director of the UCLA Pediatric Pain and Palliative Care Program. She has provided an invited lecture on Pain in Autism for the French Society of Pain and Psychiatry in Paris, France, and has a chapter on pain in children with autism for a book on Pain in Psychiatry. She was an invited member of the Institute of Medicine’s Committee on Pain Care, Research, and Education and is a co-author on the IOM report on Transforming Pain in America, prepared at the request of Congress.

Dr. Zeltzer has received many awards, including a William T Grant Faculty Scholar’s Award, a National Cancer Institute Research Career Development Award, a 2002 Physician Excellence Award from Trinity Hospice, the 2003 UCLA Helene Brown Award for Excellence in Cancer Control Research, a 2005 Mayday Pain and Policy Fellowship, and the 2005 Jeffrey Lawson Award for Advocacy in Children’s Pain Relief from the American Pain Society (APS). Additionally, her UCLA pain program received a 2009 Clinical Center of Excellence in Pain Management Award from the APS.

She is a past President of the Special Interest Group on Pain in Childhood in the International Association for the Study of Pain, and past-Secretary of the American Pain Society. She is a member of the FDA’s Committee on Analgesia, Anesthesia, and Addiction, and was an invited member to the recent CDC committee on Opioid Guidelines. She has over 380 scientific research publications and over 85 chapters on pain in childhood. She and her husband Dr. Paul Zeltzer have a pediatric pain clinic Whole Child LA (www.cholechildla.com).
